World Tourism Day

World Tourism Day, celebrated on September 27, highlights the importance of tourism for international relations, cultural exchange, and the preservation of natural and cultural resources. Since 1980, a motto has been proclaimed each year. For example, in 1984, the motto was "Tourism for International Understanding, Peace, and Cooperation," and this year it is "Tourism and Peace." Tourism is an important sector of the economy of any country, and it grows year after year.
History of origin
The choice of September 27 was no accident. A full 45 years passed between the organization's founding (1925) and the adoption of its charter (1970). The history of World Tourism Day stems from a desire to highlight the importance of tourism to the international community, to emphasize its role in promoting the peaceful coexistence of diverse cultures and peoples, and to draw attention to issues of sustainable development and biodiversity conservation.
